How To Choose Jewelry That Enhances Your Appearance

Jewelry has been worn for centuries as a means to enhance appearance as well a show one status. From crude jewelry made from natural elements like wood and grass to quality made pieces using precious metals and gemstones to suit royalty, jewelry has been a good way to add to your looks for thousands of years.

Luckily today, we have a wide range of styles to choose from. From cheap costume jewelry too expensive diamonds and gold, necklaces, bracelets and earrings are made in every conceivable shape size and form.

Everyone loves to wear jewelry, but did you know that the shape and style of jewelry you choose can actually work towards enhancing your appearance?

Here's some tips on selecting jewelry that will complement your particular features and shape:

Necklaces

Much like clothing, necklace styles can work towards changing the viewers perception of your height. If you are very short and want to give the perception that you are taller than you want to choose necklaces that are longer. Necklaces that are V-shaped or Y-shaped lariat's can elongate your appearance. you want to pick necklaces that go below your boss but not pass your waist. These shapes and lengths will want your torso and make you appear taller.

But what about those of you who are tall and wanted our attention away from your height? If this is you, then you want to choose necklaces that are short either 16 or 18 inches that rest on her collarbone. Choker necklaces can also work to make you look shorter.

When choosing necklaces you also want to think about the volume or chunkiness of the necklace. a large boned or full figured gal will want a necklace that has a little bit of volume - perhaps large chunky stones or a thick link. If you are petite, however larger jewelry may not look right on you and you may want to choose something more delicate.

Also, take me volume of the piece into consideration. If you are big boned or larger than chunkier necklaces might be more in proportion. However, a petite person may not look so good in large size jewelry.

Earrings

Earrings can work towards or against the shape of your face. Depending on the shape of your face, you can use particular earring styles to emphasize a deemphasize flaws in the shape. When we talk about face shapes we are referring to the basic shapes of round, rectangle or, heart-shaped, oval, or square

those with an oval shaped face are the luckiest because they can wear pretty much any style and look good. If your faces round, however, you don't want to emphasize the fullness so you want to stay away from big button style earrings or hoops. Long earings or square or rectangular shaped will help to elongate your face.

Heart-shaped faces are thinner by the chin and so you want to wear earrings that can widen out your chin such as triangular shapes or chandeliers are wider at the bottom. if your faces long or rectangular shaped you don't want to wear longer dangling earrings as this will tend to elongate your face. Stick with smaller stubs to match your face shape.

Bracelets and Rings

A lot of times when you talk or when you're just sitting around your hands are up near your face so you want to choose your bracelets and rings so that the compliment your face as well as your hands.

Also, you want to consider your signs and whether you are large boned or small boned when choosing bracelets. If you are petite then large chunky bracelets might look awkward on you so delicate thin bracelets might be the way to go. On the other hand if you're large boned or even medium-sized you might look best with a wide bracelet or a stack of bracelets.

Are you a Teaser or Provoker? Your Sexy Halloween Costume can Reveal that!

Strangely, despite the scary (but correct) notions of Halloween parties, which are invariably designed to be spooky and scare people out of their wits, there is a surge in demand for sexy costumes during the Halloween costume shopping season. Looking scary and looking sexy at the same time might seem paradoxical; yet, this truth continues to stare us in the face each year. Of course, I doubt if sellers of these sexy Halloween costumes are complaining (at least we are not), but it certainly opens up a topic for some thought and discussion.

Just as beauty is a very subjective attribute, sexiness is also very subjective. What appeals to one person may or may not appeal to another person. Yet, even with this sort of uniqueness that defines sexuality, there is a certain universality about what is likely to catch the attention of a major proportion of people. In fact, when you scour through hundreds of sexy costumes, one can still instinctively get a feel of what will catch somebody’s eye.

The primary prerequisite of a sexy costume is that it has to connect to some innate feeling (or fantasy). Once that connection is established, heads turn and eyes roll. It’s almost like they send out some invisible waves that turn on an onlooker’s sensibilities. Costumes that manage to do this invariably turn out to be the best sellers.

Sexy costumes- the teasers and the provokers
I believe sexy costumes can be very broadly classified into two types—the teasers and the provokers. Both have their own charm and works well with completely different kinds of personalities.

Often sexiness comes out of being bold, daring and almost outrageous, which appeal to some people’s sensibilities. There are costumes that display that kind daring and stamp their own statement. They are provocative and almost scream out: dare to get me?

On the other hand, there is the entirely different range that relies more on subtleties. These costumes seed inquisitiveness and feed imagination. They are the seductive variety, designed to tease and tantalize, kind of leading one on and stretching and prolonging the fun.

What To Do If You're a Petite, Plus, or Tall Size

What can you do if you aren't an "average" size? What choices do you have if you're a petite, plus or tall size, and every clothes-shopping trip you take becomes an exercise in frustration?

Well, don't give up! There are a number of things you can do-IF you understand a few basic tenants. Let's review them:

1. Don't Expect Chocolate In A Sea of Vanilla

The fashion industry offers the largest bulk of its merchandise in "standard sizes", which encompasses women sizes 4-14, 5'4" to 5'8" in height (European sizes 34-44 and 1.6256-1.7272 m), who also have an hour-glass shape. Because so many women fit these parameters, this is the most profitable ready-to-wear market.

If you don't fit this description, your choices are considerable reduced...but not non-existent. You just can't go into a regular, "vanilla" clothing store, and expect to have success in finding your non-standard size. If you do find what you need, consider yourself lucky. Otherwise, head for specialty clothing stores.

2. Understand Your Body

Have a large bust but small hips? Have large hips but no bust? Need one size on top and another size on the bottom? Then accept it and move on. Your goal is to dress the shape you have, not the shape you wished you had. Yes, it's common sense advice...that's ignored much too often, I'm afraid. Accept your body and move on.

3. Learn Some Sleight-of-Hand Tricks

You can appear larger or smaller depending on what kind of clothes you choose. Some elements to beware of include:

*Lines - horizontal lines on a garment will make you look wider; vertical lines will make you look taller and thinner.

*Color-light colors will make you look larger; dark colors will make you look smaller.

*Texture-smooth textures make you appear smaller; chunky or shiny textures add bulk

4. Experiment With Different Elements

Once you've found clothes that fit your shape and size, try experimenting with different clothing elements to bring about the desired effect.

For example, if you're heavy...

*Try adding a long beaded necklace or pendant to your ensemble to give you a slenderizing vertical line.

*Avoid clothes that add visual bulk, like chunky sweaters, horizontal stripes, or light-colored fabrics.

*Opt for monochromatic looks, blending colors from head to toe.

Or, if you're very thin...

*Use gathers and soft fullness to visually add pounds.

*Use multiple layers to create fullness and interest.

Fashion Hype

Every new season brings new hype to the fashion world. This season’s top hottie is the new “skinny jeans.” These are the jeans from long ago when Mary Tyler Moore wore these slim cut pants on the Dick Van Dyke Show. Designers claim that all shapes and sizes can wear these jeans. The skinny jeans are make with lycra that stretch, hold you in and still be able to move freely. These amazing jeans come with a price, and boy will it cost you. Top end stores will be selling them anywhere from $100.00 – $300.00. Ouch! This price certainly is an eyesore to people on a budget. They will have to wait for markdowns that may take a while. Budget conscious people may have to opt for the same style of jeans with more affordable labels. Levi’s will be coming out with a much more reasonably priced jean ranging from $25.00-$50.00.

As top models contend for the fashion spotlight, I have yet to see a person out of proportion wearing these jeans. Top designers always use the prettiest models with the best build. What about the average person? Not all are built with the best body, but want a shot to share the limelight modeling the best in fashion or see someone with not so perfect body wearing top fashions by the top designers.

Fashions, being universal, let out an excitement that is almost electric. “This seasons fashions by the best designers Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass and Max Azea always top the charts with their signature fashions. From Europe to America every country has its own flare for fashion. From sexy to tame designers have us drooling for more. Months of planning and art layout and photography are now ready to be put in print with the most famous models on the magazine covers with the latest fashions for all the world to see. A funny thing about fashion is that it has come full circle. Capri pants, ruffles, bell-bottoms, and now the return of the “skinny jeans” to name just a few have made a huge comeback.

Halloween Props: Three Things to Consider When Selecting the Right Props for Your Halloween Party

With Halloween right around the corner, Halloween shopping is at getting to the peak frenzy as we would expect. The hunt for the best (and often, spookiest) costumes is well and truly on. While we can expect to see some of the all-time favorite costumes in demand as usual, there are always some new costume arrivals that always surprise and shock (two emotions that go well with Halloween, anyway!).

But are costumes without the right props to go with them and accentuate the desired effect? Choosing the right prop requires as much planning as one would expend on selecting an outfit. Of course, costume sellers like us do use our knowledge and experience to recommend the right combinations; however, as a person visiting or hosting a Halloween party, the customer is probably most well informed to make the right selection.

I list below some very simple points to consider when deciding on the props to use for your Halloween get together. Some of these might seem as no-brainers, but we have often seen how ignoring some of these simple aspects can take the fun out of a party.

Party theme:

This is obviously one of the most important considerations. Plan and decide the theme of the Halloween party. Once you have decided a particular theme, research into the various props that you will require to create the right ambience for that theme. It is all about getting the setting right--- if your theme is of a spooky & scary party, then obviously you should ensure that the props are scary as well—whether it be in their look or the sounds they make. Props that are not in sync with the theme of a party are an absolute dampener. Make sure you avoid that mistake.

Props for all characters

Once you have the theme decided and created the appropriate setting for the party, it is also quite important to consider getting additional props for the individual characters who may be turning up for the party dressed in costumes befitting that particular theme. While visitors may bring their own props, it helps to plan for some additional (and may be even surprise) props. That is just bound to add to the excitement of the party.

Ensuring that the props work

If you really want your Halloween party to go the way you want it to, ensure that you have checked and tested all the props. They should be doing what they are supposed to- for example, may be a prop is designed to pop out something when someone touches a part of it. Test it before your party so that it doesn’t turn out to be a damp squib.

Props are as much a vital part of the Halloween party experience as anything else—so make sure you have planned for and bought all the right props.

The Importance Of Clothes

The human race universally wears articles of clothing-also known as dress, garments, or attire-on the body in order to protect it against the adverse climate conditions. In its broadest sense, clothing is defined as the coverings of the torso and limbs, as well as the coverings for the hands, feet and head. Articles carried rather than worn, such as purses, are usually counted as accessories, while glasses or jewelry, although worn, also fit this category. On the other hand, the body's decoration with tattoos, make-up and hairstyle, although contributes to the general message an individuals want to relay in addition to his or her clothing choices, do not constitute clothing as such.

In most cultures, clothing was introduced as a method of protecting the human body against extreme weather conditions -strong winds, intense heat, cold and precipitation. In particular, the weaves of clothes prevent the circulation of air around the skin and thus, avoid the exit of the air reheated by the skin, which makes people feel uncomfortable and cold. Additionally, the clear weaves of clothing avoid the ultraviolet radiation of the sun and the burns in the skin, protecting it, therefore, from the heat. Finally, more impermeable weaves protect the human body from coming into contact with the water of rain or snow. Since water is an excellent thermal storage cell, when the cold rain drops of snow flakes fall and touch the human skin, they immediately send through the nerve cells a message to the human brain that the exposed area is becoming colder than the rest of the body and causing people to feel discomfort.

But people wear clothing for functional as well as social reasons. Apart from the practical functions of placing a piece of garment above the skin, wearing clothes also carries specific cultural and social meanings. In numerous cultures, for instance, it is bad sight to show to others parts of the human body anatomy and particularly the genitals. Thus, clothes serve as a method to hide from the rest of the world the particular areas of a person's body. Religion, customs and of course, particular historically important circumstances have shaped the way different people in various times feel about clothing and exposure. Moreover, clothing has been regarded as one of the best ways to distinguish social classes, sexes, occupation, marital status and ethnic or religious affiliation. But in order to interpret correctly the messages a particular set of clothes may transmit to others, one has to be familiar with the translation of the specific code. Wearing white during a western funeral for example is highly inappropriate, while eastern societies endorse such a color selection for mourning people.

Today, there are many materials with which clothes are made. A person can choose from purchasing clothes made from natural origin materials, like silk, wool, and leather, but may also select one for the man-made fibers extensively used in clothes manufacturing, like nylon, polyester, Lycra and Gore-Tex. With the recent technological developments, there is great speculation for the direction future clothes will take; in fact the clothing electronics industry has just started.
