Leather Aprons

Hunting came naturally to early man and leather was thus the first kind of covering that he used. As man went on to use fibres made with other natural products, leather took a backseat as primary clothing. Instead, it came to be used for outer wear, to be worn over clothes and protect man from rain, snow and cold. It gradually came to be used for protection not just from the elements but also while performing various jobs.

The leather apron dates back several years and can be found to have been used by soldiers through the ages. Old paintings show a wide usage of leather aprons by soldiers. Evidence of its use is also found in several references in historical records. From 1740 onwards aprons came to be made with other materials and leather aprons were slowly relegated for specialised use. Rubber aprons are used in the chemical industry as protection against spillage of dangerous chemicals. Leather aprons were used while working with animals and doing any job that required intesnse heat.

They are used even today in certain industries and by people who handle animals. Animal trainers use leather aprons as it gives them adequate protection from bites, dirt and grime. These aprons are made with adjustable neck and waist straps. The neck band has extra padding to ensure it doesn't hurt the wearer's neck. Today, farriers who have replaced the traditional balcksmiths in servicing horses use leather aprons while going about their business. Leather aprons have their uses in the industrial arena too. Being very useful for ensuring safety of workers, certain industries get leather aprons custom made as per their requirements. Manufacturers of leather aprons can be easily located on the Internet.
